Traditionally, Parc Howard has been the home of the Llanelli tournaments, with various other greens in the area hosting some of the early rounds when entries were more numerous than in recent years. With justification, the two greens at the historic Parc Howard, have long been recognised as among the best greens to bowl on in the country, and have hosted many major events. The latest International series held at Parc Howard in 1995, resulted in a Welsh victory, their last win on home soil. The Roberts-Rolfe, and the early rounds of The A.J.Stacey take place at Parc Howard, with the certainty that vagaries of the playing surface will have no bearing on the results of the matches.
Calsonic Bowls Club hosts the later rounds of the A.J.Stacey, with other league finals being played on the Friday night, and the whole of the Rotary Pairs tournament. This much improved green is a credit to the hard work of the club members, and was acclaimed by the vast majority of the competitors in 2006. It might have been a coincidence, but the few complaints came from losing players! The venue has a major advantage for the staging of a successful tournament, as it is overlooked by the Calsonic Kansei Social Club. Spectators have a grandstand view of the play, with the fact that liquid refreshment is available at appealing prices, adding to the atmosphere. Any player fortunate enough to be drawn on rink one, is left in no doubt as to the crowd’s opinion of their skill, or on occasion, lack of it.
The Calsonic Kansei Social Club has an enviable reputation as an entertainment venue, winning the prestigious Club Mirror award for retailing club of the year in 2005 and 2006, and were finalists in the Music Club of the Year awards in 2006. |
