Arthur Cambrey Cup

Continuous play on Sunday, evenings through the week.
For a First prize of £500 and the Rotary Pairs Cup.

Sponsored by Arthur Cambrey, Funeral Directors of Llanelli in conjunction with Golden Charter Funeral Plans.

Inaugurated in 1957, when a cup was presented by the Rotary Club of Llanelli as a trophy for the Pairs Competition run by the Llanelli Bowling League.

This is the most popular of our Open Tournaments, and the venue at Calsonic is a huge success.  The quality of the green appeals to the players, and the facilities and convivial atmosphere means that supporters can enjoy the bowling in pleasant surroundings.

The initial running was won by B. Rosser and B. Longhurst of the local Brynhyfryd club, but within two years the trophy was taken by the Swansea raiders, L. and R. Hill.  A number of visiting entrants have since been successful, notably John Price and his father, Harry, winners on two occasions.

Most successful players are another father and son, Brian and David Kingdon. Both have won the competition four times, once playing together and three times each (in succession) with different partners.  In Brian’s case with Allan McCarley, while David achieved his hat-trick with Neil Rees. With the generous support of Mr Arthur Cambrey, and increased entries in recent years, prize money has now reached the five hundred pound mark for the successful pairing.

The 2008 winners were Loughor clubmates, Peter Morris and Nigel Cunnah. They defeated another Loughor duo, Tyrone Bendle and Kerry Thomas in a somewhat one sided final.  They are shown with sponsor Mr. Arthur Cambrey and County President, Cliff Averill.
