Stacey cup

Continuous play on Sunday, evenings through the week.
For a First Prize of £500 and the A.J.Stacey Memorial Cup.

Inaugurated in 1948, after a fund was set up to commemorate the life and achievements of A.J.Stacey. Possibly the finest bowler ever from Carmarthenshire, Alf won many open tournaments throughout Wales and the South of England, played for his country for twenty years between 1919 and 1939, and captained Wales in a winning series in 1925.

Playing bowls

The tournament ranks a close second to the Roberts-Rolfe in terms of prestige in this area, and is just as difficult to win. Some famous names appear on the trophy, in the case of Fred Thomas, no less than five times. In the modern era, Brian Kingdon is still seeking that elusive fifth victory in the competition.

It is not known how much Sid Jones received for winning the inaugural event, but the 2007 winner, Adrian Evans of Parc-y-dre picked up £500 for his success in the “Stacey”, the fourth time he’s lifted the trophy since 1991.
